All stories about vocation are beautiful because they all are love storie. Some of them, though, provoke astonishment as they involve characters “beyond suspicion”.
Dolores Hart was a young Hollywood star, whose beauty pulled huge crowds to cinemas, and directors were willing to pay anything to have her starring in their films. Success, jewellery, pleasure, fun, amusement., she basically had all that anybody could wish for on this earth. Vanitas vanhtatum, vanity of vanities, all is vanity except to love God and serve Him alone. Earthly goods cannot satisfy the human heart, which has been created only to love God and becomes restless when not resting on Him.
Mary, Mediatrix of all graces, was watching over Dolores whom the Lord wanted as his chaste spouse. The young, blonde actress played Saint Clare in a film about Saint Francis ofAssisi (the two photos on this post are from the film), and had the opportunity to meet his Holiness the Pope. With time she realized that Jesus was calling her to the cloister life of the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Connecticut, USA. Between the general astonishment and outcry from the media and the international public, she left everything behind and decided to wear the Benedictine habit. In the silence and concentration offered by the cloister life, she finally found herself truly happy.
